EUREKA – The Eureka men's soccer team dropped a 7-0 non-conference match against Central on Thursday.

Coming off the heels of an intense, 2-1 victory over Principia to open St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Tuesday, the Red Devils took a more experimental approach.

Coach Ryan Woodside started a new lineup and tried players in positions. By the end of the evening, 27 different players had graced the pitch for the maroon and gold.

The Dutch scored twice in the first half. The first was the first of two goals in the match by Nolan Piedimonte off an assist by Coleman Manuel. The second was a penalty kick by Gabe Wilson.

In the second half, Spencer Taylor struck off an assist by Alejo Marcon early on. Shortly after that, Piedimonte scored again off the Dutch's second penalty kick of the evening.

Lay Doe Htoo put away a fifth goal off an assist by Marco, Carter Newhouse scored off an assist by Derek Beiner and Evan Hackett scored an assist by Austin Devilder.

Tyler Russow (Streator, Ill./Streator/Illinois Valley Community College) and Jake Edmondson (Monticello, Ill./Monticello) each had a shot on goal for Eureka.

The Red Devils (3-4-2, 1-0 SLIAC) will next look to put the result behind them when they continue SLIAC play on the road against new league foe Mississippi University for Women (1-6-1, 1-1 SLIAC) on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Owls fell 2-0 at Spalding in their first-ever SLIAC showdown last week and then topped Blackburn 2-1 on Thursday.
