EC Men's Soccer Season Ends at Fonbonne, 3-0

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – It was an emotional Saturday afternoon for the Eureka men's soccer team as six seniors took the pitch for the final time as Red Devils.

The Red Devils held their own at Fontbonne on Saturday, but the Griffins came away with a 3-0 victory to end EC's season.

The Griffins struck in the tenth minute of play as Fontbonne's Drew Moser connected on a series of passes with Andres Castro that led to an easy 12-yard finish for Moser.

The Griffins added another goal before halftime in the 40th minute, as a low cross from a corner kick and missed clearance led to an 8-yard rocket from Anthony LaRocca, not giving goalkeeper Moises Aldana (Spring Valley, Ill./Hall) a chance to react.

Aldana added to robust save total this year and finish with a game high five saves.

The Red Devils were down 2-0 heading into halftime.

Fontbonne would pick up right where they left off in the first half with another goal in the 53rd minute.  Tyler Scales was able to get his name on the scoresheet, finishing a cross from the left flank that was delivered by Andres Castro.

Four-year senior winger Adam Newell (Morton, Ill./Morton) would finish the match and his four year campaign with a team high two shots for the Red Devils. The other seniors who played their final match were Aldana, Christian Marin (Whittier, Calif./California), Trey Behm (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone), Bryan Najera (Chicago, Ill./Cure Metropolitan) and Michael Hansen (Peoria, Ill./Limestone).

The Red Devils finished the season with a record of 2-12-1.
