Greenville Keeps Red Devils Off Board, 7-0

GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Eureka men's soccer team couldn't get on the board in a 7-0 loss at Greenville in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Friday night.

The Panthers drew first blood less than 10 seconds into the match when Jared McPeek intercepted a pass in the Red Devils' defensive third, and with a clear path to goal, converted a shot from 15 yards out.

Then, in the 23rd minute, McPeek would put away his second after receiving the ball at the top of the 18 and finessing it into the upper corner of the net, over keeper Moises Aldana (Spring Valley, Ill./Hall).

Aldana finished the match with a game-high eight saves.

The Panthers struck again in the 33rd minute of play after Jose Soutullo beat a defender and crossed the ball in to the head of Christian Gomez to put Greenville ahead 3-0.

Greenville's Matt White slotted the ball across the box from the right side and Napoleon Urquidi corralled it, made a nice move to lose the defender and finish a shot far post to make it 4-0 before halftime.

In the second half, the Panthers picked up right where they left off, with Matt White converting spectacular overhead g.al in the 49th minute from a ball that was delivered into the box by Juan Garcia.

The Red Devils nearly found themselves in the 72nd minutes on the scoresheet as midfielder Cristian Marin nearly buried a 30-yard strike that rattled the post and went out of bounds.

The Panthers added two more goals courtesy of Adam Jones and Luis Duran in the 54th and 72nd minutes, respectively.

The Red Devils (2-8-1, 0-5 SLIAC)will vie for their first conference victory on Wednesday at Iowa Wesleyan (4-8-2, 3-0-1). Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
