MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa – A first-minute goal by Carlos Mateo and a scoring outburst in the second half proved to be the difference in Iowa Wesleyan's 5-0 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over the Eureka College men's soccer team, Wednesday afternoon in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.
Mateo finished Fabian Arvizu's corner-kick service for the match-winning goal just 54 seconds into the match. Cristian Garcia made it 2-0 just 77 seconds before halftime and the Tigers added to the lead with three more strikes in the second half.
Moises Aldada (Spring Valley, Ill./Hall H.S.) made five saves in goal for the visitors.
Eureka will continue SLIAC play Saturday at 3 p.m. against Westminster in Fulton, Mo.
