Red Devils Stumble in SLIAC Opener at Fontbonne, 6-0

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Eureka College men's soccer team opened its 12th St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule Saturday afternoon at Fontbonne, dropping a 6-0 league decision to the Griffins at Centene Stadium in St. Louis, Mo.

Blake Smugala's third goal of the season in the 14th minute proved to be the match-winner for the hosts. The Griffins hit the back of the net five times in the first half. In all, six different players scored for the Griffins on Saturday.

Daniel Johnson (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) equaled a season high with 14 saves. Michael Hansen (Peoria, Ill./Limestone H.S.) took the Red Devils' lone shot attempt of the afternoon.

The Red Devils will be back on the turf under the lights at McKinzie Field on Monday at 7 p.m. against Lincoln Christian.
