Bowen Leads Red Devils to First Victory of 2016

Eureka, Ill. -- Sophomore James Bowen leads the Red Devils in goals scored to kick off the 2016 campaign, scoring four of the five Red Devils goals in their 5-2 victory over the Emmaus Eagles. Freshman Michael Hansen scored the fifth Red Devil goal of the game. 

 

Eureka started the game strong, maintaining constant possession of the ball. Shots came early, with Bowen shooting the ball for the first time in the third minute. Bowen's first goal came in the 27th minute from freshman Parker Phillips. Eureka shot a total of 12 times during the first half, with the lone goal being the only shot on frame. 

 

Bowen's second goal came in the 55th minute, with the assist credited to Hansen. Bowen scored 59 seconds later, with the assist by junior Brady Thomas in the 56th minute. Again, 46 seconds after his third goal, Bowen scored his fourth of the match in the 57th minute. Hansen scored the fifth goal for Eureka, with the assist credited to Bowen in the 66th minute. 

 

Emmaus retaliated late in the match with an 82nd minute goal by Brandon Young. Emmaus scored their second of the match 58 seconds later with the goal credited to John Hertz in the 83rd minute. 

 

Sophomore Daniel Johnson kept a clean slate through 74 minutes, only touching the ball once. Senior Chase Krones conceded both goals and saved the ball twice. 

 

The Red Devils will continue nonconference action on Friday, September 9 against the Faith Baptist Eagles. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 pm.
