Gorloks Top Red Devils, 71-64.

ST. LOUIS, MO – The Eureka men's basketball team came up short on Wednesday, falling to Webster 71-64. 

The first half was evenly matched. After Eureka took an 8 point lead midway through the half off of a Ben Carter three-pointer, Webster closed out the half by scoring 10 points unanswered. The Gorloks went to the locker room with a single possession advantage, leading 36-34. Eureka would pull it back to even, 41-41, but never recovered a lead, as the Gorloks established a small advantage and knocked down key free throws in the final minutes to secure a victory. 

Cody Baer (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap/Southwestern Illinois) tallied a team-high 26 points for the Red Devils, along with 7 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals. He was joined in the double digits by Ben Carter (Morton, Ill./Morton) and Peewee Brown (Peoria, Ill./Manual/Lincoln). Carter notched 16 points and added 7 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block, and a team-high 3 assists. Brown posted 14 points, 6 rebounds and a team-high 3 steals. Baer, Carter, and Brown combined for 56 of Eureka's 64 points.

Webster's offense was led by Booker Simmons and Karl Moore, who combined for 44 points. Simmons posted 23 points and Moore recorded 21.

Eureka (5-13, 3-8 SLIAC) will return home for a conference contest against Spalding (8-8, 7-3 SLIAC) on Saturday at 4:00 PM CST.
