EUREKA – The Eureka men's basketball team had the only unbeaten team in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on the ropes on Wednesday night.

The home team led for most of the game, but Webster finished strong and slipped by the Red Devils, 67-59, to improve to 5-0 in league play.

With five minutes to play, Andrew Gonzalez (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) knocked down a 3-pointer in rhythm to give Eureka a four-point edge.

After that, though, the Red Devils couldn't get a basket to go, and the Gorloks scored 12 unanswered to snag the win.

Eureka came close to getting the win despite an off shooting night in which the team went 24-for-77 from the field. The Gorloks were even colder in the first half, shooting 30.6 percent from the field. After going into the half trailing EC by eight, Webster improved to 52.9 percent in the second half.

Charlie McKinty (Elmwood, Ill./Elmwood/Illinois College) tallied a team-high 16 points and had brought down eight rebounds. Peewee Brown (Peoria, Ill./Manual/Lincoln) posted a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Logan Dorethy (Hamilton, Ill./West Hancock/Hannibal LaGrange) notched 10 points and had nine rebounds. Brown, Ausytn Ellison (Hudson, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) and Gonzalez all distributed three assists, and McKinty and Noah Persich (Peoria, Ill./Metamora/Glen Oaks) each had two steals.

Webster's Wynne Brown Jr. finished with a game-high 20 points, scoring all in the second half. Karl Moore Jr. recorded 14 points and 11 rebounds. Nate Jones contributed 11 points off the bench.

Eureka will look to bounce back on Saturday when the Red Devils (5-11, 3-2 SLIAC) take on Fontbonne (8-8, 3-1 SLIAC) on the road at 3 p.m.
