Eureka falls at Division I Northern Illinois

DEKALB, Ill. – Eureka College freshman guard Hank Thomas (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) poured in 13 points, reaching double-figures for the first time in his collegiate career, but the NCAA Division I Northern Illinois University Huskies ran away with a 100-52 victory, Saturday afternoon at the NIU Convocation Center in DeKalb, Ill.

The Huskies jumped out to a quick 12-0 lead before a jumper by senior guard Greg Kent (Chicago, Ill./Richards/[Blackhawk]) put the Red Devils on the board with 16:33 remaining in the first half. NIU continued to build a sizable first-half lead, taking a 58-25 advantage into the locker room. Thomas had a team-high eight points at the break.

Eureka freshman guard Dylan Troyer (Eureka, Ill./Eureka) added 8 points on 3-for-3 shooting from the field. Kent, Thomas, and freshman forward Kyle Robison (South Wilmington, Ill./Gardner-South Wilmington) paced the Red Devils with four rebounds apiece. Freshman forward Alex Wiegand (Washington, Ill./Washington) chipped in seven points and dished a team-high three assists.

NIU's Marshawn Wilson tallied a game-high 17 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field off the bench. The Huskies outrebounded Eureka 43-30.
