Eureka falls in heartbreaker at Westminster

FULTON, Mo. – Eureka College men's basketball freshman Shea Feehan (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame [Lewis]) scored 36 points and senior Sam Feehan (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame [Illinois Central]) added 23, but Westminster's Jimmy Villalobos hit a game-winning jumper with 0.5 seconds remaining to lift the Blue Jays to a 91-90 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference triumph, Saturday night inside Westminster Gymnasium.

The loss drops Eureka to 8-13 overall and 6-8 in conference. Westminster improves to 9-12 and 9-5 in league play.

Feehan's 36-point total sets the new high for a Red Devil this season, breaking the 34-point mark he set in Wednesday's contest at MacMurray. Feehan has averaged 22.0 points per game over nine games played since joining the team at the beginning of the semester.

The Red Devils battled back in the second half after heading to the locker room down, 56-41. Back-to-back jumpers near the 8-minute mark by Shea Feehan gave the Red Devils their first lead of the second half and the two schools would go back and forth over the final minutes of play.

WC's Nick Carlos poured in 25 points to pace the Blue Jays, while Romo Tabb notched 19 points and nine rebounds for the host.

Eureka shot a blistering 53.7 percent (29-of-54) from the floor and 50.0 percent (11-of-22) from the 3-point line. The Blue Jays countered with a 50.0 percent effort from the field, hitting 35 of their 70 shots taken.

Eureka will return to the Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center Wednesday for a 8 p.m. conference matchup against the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers.
