James Douglas III, Trevon Moore Voted D3football.com All-Region
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — A pair of Red Devil seniors — James Douglas III (Orlando, Fla./Deltona) and Trevon Moore (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) — have been named to the D3football.com All-North Third Team, according to an announcement from the website on Tuesday.
Tuesday's announcement marks Eureka's sixth and seventh D3football.com All-Region selections, and the second time Eureka has had two players chosen in the same year.
Wide receiver and EC Hall of Famer Wes Schmidgall was picked for the Third Team in 2011, followed by Trevor Zeibert's Third Team selection in 2016. The following year, Le'Anthony Reasnover and Ryan Barth were both All-Region Second Team honorees in 2017. Then, last year, Reasnover became the first Red Devil to be named to the First Team.
Players were nominated for these awards by the sports information directors at the various schools, and selected in balloting by North Region sports information directors and D3football.com staff.
A total of 1,065 players were nominated, with 78 selected in the North Region. All players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for the D3football.com All-America Team to be announced on Friday, Dec. 20.
Douglas, who became known as one of the most electrifying wide receivers in the region this fall, capped his prolific two-year run by racking up 1,139 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns on 67 receptions. He notched over 100 receiving yards five times, went over 150 four times and recorded a career-high 216 yards in a 50-49 win over Lakeland on Nov. 2.
In addition to leading in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference in both receiving yards and receptions, and finishing second in touchdowns, Douglas averaged 113.9 receiving yards per game, placing him 12th in NCAA Division III on the year.
By season's end, Douglas had recorded the fifth 1,000 receiving yard season in program history, and he was only the third player to do it, joining head coach Kurt Barth (1994-97) and Schmidgall (2009-11). His 14 touchdown total is the third most in program history, and Douglas finished with the most career receiving yards (1,333) by a two-year player in program history.
Also a dangerous return man, Douglas racked up 352 yards on 17 kick returns and 73 yards on four punt return, including a 70-yard return for a touchdown in a 38-28 season-ending win at Rockford on Nov. 16.
Long established as the Red Devils' most respected and feared cornerback, Moore is the first defensive player from Eureka to receive D3football.com All-Region honors since Zeibert in 2016 and only the second in program history.
Last month, he became the first defensive player from Eureka to become a four-year first-team all-conference honoree and only the second player overall in program history, joining head coach Kurt Barth.
This season, when he wasn't making opposing teams think twice about looking his way, Moore was racking up a league-leading 11 pass breakups in his final season as a Red Devil. He also contributed 13 tackles, one for loss and one interception. Among the most memorable plays Moore made this season was a late forced incompletion that helped seal EC's 50-49 win over Lakeland.
Moore finished his senior campaign as second in the nation in Division III among active players in career passes defended with 58.
Eureka completed the 2019 season with a 6-4 record. In their second season in the NACC, the Red Devils placed third overall with a 4-3 mark. They finished the season with a three-game winning streak and moved to 10-4 all-time in NACC play.
