Red Devils Defeat Knox, 11-4

EUREKA, IL. – The Eureka baseball team, hot off two big wins on Monday, defeated Knox at home on Tuesday, 11-4.

After four scoreless innings, it was Knox that struck first, scoring three in the top of the fifth. The Red Devils responded in the bottom of the inning with 2 runs of their own as junior Nick Rulevish (Addieville, Ill./Okawville) doubled with runners on second and third to score both. Two more runs crossed the plate in the sixth inning for the Red Devils to take the lead. They notched another two runs in the seventh to further extend the lead.

Eureka knocked in five final runs in the eighth inning to close out an emphatic win. After the Red Devils loaded up the bases, Knox's Andrew Garrett walked Mike Dunne to bring home Rulevish from third. With the bases still loaded and two outs, Hayden McKenna (Sheridan, Ill./Marquette Academy) doubled to score two. Nickolas Cartmill (Burleson,Texas/Burleson/Bacone) then singled to bring another two across the plate.

Mike Dunne started on the mound for the Red Devils and pitched four innings, allowing just one run and recording 10 strikeouts. Dominic Tenayuca (Lake in the Hills, Ill./Jacobs/Lincoln) put in five innings as a reliever, facing 21 batters. Tenayuca recorded 3 strikeouts and picked up his first win of the season from the mound.

Hayden McKenna led the Red Devil bats. In his four plate appearances, McKenna hit two doubles (2 RBI's), walked, and struck out once. Rulevish, Frenden, and Cartmill each joined McKenna with 2 RBI's on the day. Rulevish and Dunne each also joined McKenna with doubles in the game.

Eureka next travels down to Texas over spring break for five games in three days. The first game of their spring trip is against Arlington Baptist on Monday at 12:00 p.m CST.
