BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Eureka baseball team dropped an 11-1, non-conference challenge at Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday evening.

The Red Devils scored one run on seven hits, with Austin Davis' (Eureka, Ill./Eureka) sacrifice fly RBI in the fifth inning putting the team on the board.

Davis went 2-for-2 on the night and also recorded his first career triple.

Brenden Eigenbrod (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln/Lincoln College), Nick Rulevish (Addieville, Ill./Okawville), Braden Cox (Washington, Ill./Illinois Bluffs/Black Hawk), Nathan Garard (Gibson City, Ill./Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley) and Mike Dunne (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone/Lincoln Land) each contributed a hit as well.

The Titans tallied three runs in the first inning, went down in order in the second and left two stranded in the third. In the next two innings, though, the home team continued to expand on the lead, taking a nine-run advantage into the sixth.

Eureka relief pitcher Renner Thompson (Roanoke, Ill./Roanoke-Benson) retired the side in the sixth, but IWU managed to put the 10-run rule into effect in the seventh.

The Red Devils used six pitchers from the bullpen over the course of the night, including Tate Stone (Washington, Ill./Washington), Rico Garcia (Peoria, Ill./Quest/Kishwaukee), Michael Wiley (Cambridge, Ill./Cambridge/Lincoln), Dominic Tenayuca (Lake in the Hills, Ill./Jacobs/Lincoln) and Luke Smiley (Charleston, Ill./Charleston/Lincoln Christian), along with Thompson.

On Saturday at 1 p.m., Eureka (6-21, 4-11 SLIAC) will return to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a road doubleheader at Blackburn (7-23, 3-12 SLIAC)
