EUREKA – Webster completed a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sweep over the Eureka baseball team at Henry Sand Field on Saturday, winning 13-2 and 12-0.

Game 1: Webster 13, Eureka 2 (7 inn.)

Webster scattered 13 runs on 11 hits in the first game of the day, taking advantage of the team's opportunities when it had them.

After a scoreless first inning, Gorloks notched three runs in the second inning, two in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and five in the seventh.

Eureka posted 10 hits, but the team's only runs came from a two-run homer in the fifth inning by David Hidden (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria). It was the first career long ball for the sophomore, who went 3-for-3 on the game to lead the Red Devils at the plate.

Cole Tanner (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone/Knox) went 2-for-3 with a double, Karter Hostetler (Morton, Ill./Morton) added a pair of hits, and Colin DeLaere (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) contributed a double that set up Hidden's two-run bomb.

Webster pitcher Jordan Smevoll limited the Red Devils two two runs on nine hits and one walk and posted six strikeouts.

Game 2: Webster 12, Eureka 0 (7 inn.)

Game 2 was shaping up to be a pitchers' duel until the Goloks caught fire in the last two innings.

Through five innings, Eureka pitcher Mike Dunne (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone/Lincoln Land) only allowed one hit.

In the sixth, however, the Gorloks produced four runs on three hits and one error. In the seventh, the Gorloks reached on back-to-back singles, then scored on a wild pitch and a pair of errors on the same play made it 7-0.

Dunne soon exited the game. By the end of the frame, the Gorloks had amassed eight runs and led 12-0.

Webster pitcher Adam Hill pitched a seven-inning, two-hitter, striking out seven batters and only walking two.

Nick Rulevish (Addieville, Ill./Okawville) and Austin Davis (Eureka, Ill./Eureka) each posted a hit for the maroon and gold.
