Eureka Falls to Alfred State, 7-2

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Eureka baseball team fell 7-2 against Alfred State in the last game of its spring break trip on Thursday.

Chase Ulrich (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria/Illinois Central College) scored an unearned run in the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-2, but the Pioneers answered with three runs in the fifth and tacked on two more in the seventh.

Ulrich also put the Red Devils on the board with an RBI groundout that scored Cole Tanner (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone/Knox) in the top of the first.

The Red Devils finished with two runs on six hits, three walks and three Alfred St. errors

Tanner and Hayden McKenna (Sheridan, Ill./Marquette Academy) both went 2-for-4, while Braden Cox (Washington, Ill./Illini Bluffs/Black Hawk) and Austin Davis (Eureka, Ill./Eureka) each had a hit.

Eureka pitcher Rico Garcia (Peoria, Ill./Quest Charter Academy/Kishwaukee) allowed four earned runs on seven hits and six walks with one strikeout in his second start as a Red Devil.

On Monday, Eureka (2-8) will open St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Fontbonne (9-6).
