Sean Green, Mike Redmond Receive All-SLIAC Honors

GREENVILLE, Ill. – On Friday, Sean Green (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) became the first Red Devil baseball player to receive First Team All-SLIAC Honors since 2010, and Mike Redmond (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) was selected to the Third Team.

The full teams were announced between Game 3 and 4 of the SLIAC Tournament at Greenville.

Green, a senior, moves up to the First Team after receiving Third Team honors as a junior in his first season with the Red Devils last year.

In 85 plate appearances over 19 SLIAC games, Green recorded a .418/.529/.672 slash line, and finished in the top 10 in the league in 10 statistical categories.

The Red Devils' leadoff hitter led the league in stolen bases with 17, finishing two ahead of Iowa Wesleyan's Chazz Brown. He had the second-highest batting average (.418), third-highest on-base percentage (.529) and fifth-highest slugging percentage (.672).

He was sixth in conference play in runs scored (22) and doubles (seven), eighth in hits (28) and extra-base hits, ninth in total bases and was one of only two players in the league to tally two triples.

During the full season, Green led the Red Devils in 10 offensive categories.

Over the course of 31 games, the Peoria native racked up 43 hits, 39 runs, nine doubles, five triples, 71 total bases and 17 extra-base hits while recording a .511 on-base percenteage and slugging .651. His 29 swiped bases gave him EC's program record for steals in a single season in the modern era, surpassing Dan Askew's mark of 25 in 2003.

As the team's center fielder, Green was known for routinely making spectacular plays, always protecting his no-fly zone. He tallied 80 putouts and two assists in 83 chances, committing just one error.

Redmond, a sophomore, is a first-time All-SLIAC honoree. The shortstop and No. 2 hitter in EC's lineup batted .333/.424/.353 in conference play while notching 17 hits, scoring 11 runs, walking eight times, driving in eight runs and stealing two bases. On the season, he collected 38 hits, 31 runs, 23 walks, 10 RBI, eight steals and three doubles, and registered a .921 fielding percentage.

Sophomore catcher Dean Moir (Coal City, Ill./Coal City) was the Red Devils' representative on the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Spalding's Eric Meyer was voted Player of the Year, while Fontbonne's Luke Summers earned Pitcher of the Year honors and Westminster's Mason Kirkweg was named Newcomer of the Year.

Spalding coach Matt Downs was selected Coach of the Year, and Blackburn received the Team Sportsmanship Award.

In EC coach Jerry Rashid's second-year at the helm, Eureka improved to 16-20, finished fourth in the SLIAC West for the second year and went 7-12 in league play.
