Eureka Falls to Division II Illinois-Springfield, 6-1

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Eureka team baseball team dropped a 6-1 non-conference game against Division II Illinois-Springfield on Saturday at UIS Baseball Field.

The Red Devils were only outhit by one, notching six hits to the home team's seven, but EC left eight runners on base and UIS were able to capitalize on their opportunities.

Illinois-Springfield tallied three runs on two hits, one error and a wild pitch in the third, then tacked on another run in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings.

Dean Moir (Coal City, Ill./Coal City), Braxten Ary (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central), Jake Carter (Carlinville, Ill./Carlinville), Mason Diederich (Washington, Ill./Washington) and Hunter Triche (Gray, La./H.L. Bourgeois) each posted a base hit for the Red Devils. Diederich's single to right field scored Ary in the second inning and gave EC an early lead, but it didn't last.

Diederich took the loss for EC after allowing four runs on four hits in five innings while striking out six and walking two. Kyle Cashdollar (Morton, Ill./Morton), Brandon Porter (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln Way Central) and Coty Johnson (Minonk, Ill./Fieldcrest) all pitched in relief.

Mike Redmond (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) and Carter each had a stolen base for EC.

The Red Devils, who entered winners of their past six games, are now 14-20 on the season. They'll host Knox in a Senior Day doubleheader on Sunday at noon. EC previously beat the Prairie Fire 10-4 earlier this season, and with another win will surpass last season's win total.
