Sean Green Voted to All-SLIAC Third Team

GREENVILLE, Ill. – Eureka College junior center fielder Sean Green (Peoria, Ill./Limestone H.S./Robert Morris-Peoria) has been named to the All-St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Third Team, Interim SLIAC Commissioner Brian Lovellette announced Thursday night at the league tournament in Greenville, Ill. Green led the Red Devils in nine offensive categories and ranked third in the league with a .488 on-base percentage in 21 conference appearances.

The first-year Red Devil from Peoria hit .394/.488/.620 in 85 plate appearances over 21 SLIAC starts from the top of the Eureka batting order in 2018. He added six doubles, two triples, two home runs and 14 RBI for EC, striking out only six times against SLIAC pitching.

For the full season, Green played in 30 contests and led the Red Devils with a .384 batting average, a .492 on-base percentage, a .586 slugging percentage, 31 runs scored, 38 hits, eight doubles, three triples, 17 walks and 17 stolen bases. Green also homered twice and drove in 17 runs.

Green was one of 200 players in Division III to hit .383 or better and his .384 average was Eureka's best single-season mark since Tim Cashdollar put up a .398 average in 2011. He hit safely in 21 of his 30 appearances and had 12 multi-hit games, including a 4-for-4 effort with three RBI and two runs scored in Eureka's April 13 league victory at Iowa Wesleyan.

Additionally, Green's 17 steals were the most in a season by a Red Devil since Nick Eeten tallied 19 in 2010.

Green was outstanding defensively in 2018, committing only one error in 72 chances for a .986 fielding percentage.

Eureka senior left-hander Isaiah Taylor (Princeton, Ill./Princeton H.S./Illinois Valley) was Eureka's representative on the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team. One player from each of the league's 10 schools is nominated for the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Spalding outfielder Garrett Wilson was named SLIAC Player of the Year. SU's Jimi Keating and Fontbonne's Luke Summers were voted Co-Pitcher of the Year. Ryan Clavin, a Westminster utility player, was named SLIAC Newcomer of the Year while Matt Downs of Spalding and Bill Kurich of Webster shared SLIAC Coach of the Year honors after guiding their respective teams to Division titles in 2018.

Under the direction of first-year head coach Jerry Rashid, Eureka finished the 2018 season 14-17-1 overall, an eight-win increase from a year ago and its largest season-to-season improvement since 2010. The Red went 8-14 in SLIAC play to finish fourth in the West Division.
