Ray Vogel Earns Spot on All-SLIAC Team

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- Eureka College junior outfielder Ray Vogel (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone H.S.) has been selected to the All-St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Third Team, league commissioner Angie Morenz announced Friday at the SLIAC Tournament in Greenville, Ill.

Vogel made 21 starts against SLIAC opponents, logging a .348/.438/.594 line in 80 total plate appearances. He led EC in league play with 12 runs scored, 24 hits, five doubles, 13 RBI, 11 walks and three stolen bases. He also paced the Red Devils with 41 total bases and nine extra-base hits and his final slugging percentage of .594 ranked 10th among SLIAC hitters.

The third-year slugger from Bartonville finished the season with a flurry, hitting safely in each of his final eight games. Included in that stretch were five multi-hit games, including a three-hit effort against MacMurray on May 3 at Henry Sand Field.

Including non-conference games, Vogel led Eureka with a .346 average, a .445 on-base percentage and a .607 slugging percentage. He hit seven home runs, drove in 26 runs and scored 20 times. The highlight of the campaign were back-to-back four-hit games against Blackburn and Bradley in late March. He homered twice and doubled in each contest and finished the game in Peoria against the Division I Braves with five RBI. He was chosen SLIAC Hitter of the Week for the second time in his career on March 27.

EC senior Jacob Zilch (Farmington, Ill./Farmington H.S.) was the Red Devils' representative on the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team. One student-athlete from each SLIAC institution is named to the All-Sportsmanship Team by their head coaches.
