Red Devils Drop SLIAC Doubleheader to Greenville

EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka College baseball team continued its longest homestand in more than a decade on Saturday, dropping both games of a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader to Greenville at Henry Sand Field.

The visitors won the opener, 14-6. GC scored five times in the first two innings to take control of the contest. Klaiton Wolff got the Panthers on the board in the top of the first with a two-run double.

The deficit was 9-0 when freshman Trenton Hall (Catlin, Ill./Salt Fork H.S.) doubled home a pair of runs to get the Red Devils on the board.

Junior Ray Vogel (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone H.S.) and freshman Kyle Finke (Argenta, Ill./Argenta-Oreana H.S.) had two hits apiece in the opener.

The Panthers put game two out of reach early, scoring multiple times in each of the first three innings. Eureka scored two in the fifth on a GC error and scored two more in the seventh, highlighted by the first collegiate home run by freshman Caden Burroughs (Normal, Ill./Normal Community H.S.), but the Panthers won by a 26-4 score.

Eureka will host non-conference foe Lincoln Christian Monday at 3:30 p.m., its 11th straight contest at Henry Sand Field since April 1.
