EC baseball tops Lincoln Christian

EUREKA, Ill. – Sophomore Ray Vogel clobbered two solo home runs, finishing 5-for-5 at the plate, pacing Eureka to a 12-9 non-conference victory over Lincoln Christian, Monday afternoon at Henry Sand Field.

Vogel is the first Red Devil to collect two or more home runs in a game since Trevor Teal smacked two against RMU-Springfield on April 2, 2012.

Freshman Josh Mead (Tampico, Ill./Bureau Valley) and Grant Mullin (Hegewisch, Ill./St. Rita) each recorded three hits apiece in the contest.

Junior Peter Litwiller (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) tallied the win in relief, firing 3.0 innings while allowing five hits and two earned runs. Senior Trevor Froehling (Cissna Park, Ill./Cissna Park [Millikin]) picked up his first save of the season and fourth of his career.

The Red Devils return to the diamond Wednesday with a conference double header at Blackburn. First pitch against the Beavers is slated for 2 p.m.
