EC baseball’s future stars on display in victory over Robert Morris-Peoria

EUREKA, Ill. – Featuring a starting lineup comprised of all but one underclassman, the Eureka College baseball team rallied from an 8-3 deficit to defeat the RMU-Peoria Eagles, 10-8, Thursday afternoon at Henry Sand Field.

Sophomore Ray Vogel (Bartonville, Ill./Bartonville) extended his hitting streak to six games with a pair of hits, including his fourth home run of the season. Vogel added a pair of RBIs and three runs scored.

Classmate Trever Zeibert (Monee, Ill./Peotone) tallied three RBIs on two hits, the centerfielder has now hit safely in nine consecutive contests.

Freshman Max Marcoux (Jennings County, Ind./Jennings County) collected his second multi-hit effort of the season and scored a season-high three times, while freshman Thomas Smith (Princeville, Ill./Princeville) registered his first collegiate hit and drove in a pair.

Junior Peter Litwiller (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) got the start on the mound as Eureka's only non-underclassman, tossing four innings of work.

Freshman Tyler Woods (Oblong, Ill./Oblong) hurled 4.0 innings of scoreless relief, notching his first collegiate victory. Woods scattered three hits, walked one and struck out two.

Senior Trevor Froehling (Cissna Park, Ill./Cissna Park [Millikin]) pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his second save of the season.

Defensively, freshman Jeremy Sinople (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Rita) provided the Red Devils with seven putouts in left field, including a pair of spectacular grabs to rob the Eagles of extra base hits.

The Red Devils return to conference action this weekend with a three-game series scheduled at Henry Sand Field against the Westminster Blue Jays. First pitch of the series opener is Saturday at 1 p.m.
